Our History

Cornerstone was built in 1936 and was known as ‘The Gospel Hall’.  The physical building has evolved somewhat since then with new sections of building added on to it over the years.  As the building has changed, so too has the congregation, and to reflect all this we decided to change our name to Cornerstone in 2009.

The cornerstone or capstone - what we would call the foundation stone - is the first stone set in the foundation of a building.  All other stones depend on it for their security.

There are many references in the bible to the cornerstone.

Ephesians 2: 19-23 reads:

Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone.  In Him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.  And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his spirit.
